1940's Style Production Dress from the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.. This dress was made for theater for the 1977-78 Season of CATS PLAY. This garment was made to fit B. Bryne for the character Adelaida.
This dress is long and flowing in a soft rayon satin that has a beautiful geometric Art Deco print. This appears to be a new construction from the 1970's, as the seams are all serged and there is a nylon zipper that runs down the back. Although it was not made in the 1940's, it has been made with a quality rayon fabric that seems like silk satin.. and sewing workmanship is top notch. All of the edge work is finished and detailed well.
The fabric has a nice quality hand, drape & flow. I could be vintage fabric from the 40's.. it is hard to tell.
The dress is long with a fitted bodice to the waist, and the skirt area flairs out to the hemline.
the label reads:
GUTHRIE THEATRE CO.
ACTOR: B. Bryne
PLAY: Cats Play
Adelaina
This garment is in EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION... with only a few very small smudge marks on the fabric's skirt area .
From my research this was from the production:

This garment has no size label. I would say that this is a WOMAN'S MEDIUM to LARGE
The dress is larger than the mannequin it is shown on.
