This is a beautiful hand crafted painted wood West African tribal mask. It is made of a heavy wood, carved with amazing detail and traditional markings and symbology. Based on our research we believe this to be West African, Ivory Coast more specifically. It may be attributed to the Baule tribe. Baule portrait masks are usually made in reverence and celebration of a respected member of the family. The eyes are painted and do not have visibility holes. The face is elongated, with a long black beard-like end feature and a white square of teeth. Atop the head is an elongated black headpiece. This is quite a special piece, perfect for hanging as display. It is equipped in the back with a small rope loop to be hung on the wall.

The mask is in excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. There are consistent areas of paint loss and wear to the wood.

The mask is 21 1/2 inches long in total. The carved out back side is 9 1/2 inches long and 7 inches wide.
