George Nakashima , Inspired Credenza , Mid Century Modern Sideboard , Danish Modern Buffet , Mid Century Modern Living Room Furniture
This is an example of my George Nakashima style walnut sideboard. I have built several of these in different sizes and configurations. My name is Don Yacovella and I'm a furniture maker and artist. I build iconic mid century modern designs in custom sizes just for you.
I think my favorite detail in this design is the hand cut through dovetail joinery on the top corners of the piece. I spend hours doing the complex layout then cutting it all out with a hand saw and a sharp chisel. Not too many woodworkers will have the skill and patience to do this. If you have a deep appreciation for fine woodworking this design will be the conversation piece in your home.
The other unique detail in my style of work is the wood selection. I select wood with light and dark color variation. I love the contrast it makes every piece truly one of a kind. I never use stain on my work just an oil based matte polyurethane. This finish not only highlights the color and grain but also offers great protection. I build furniture to be used every day not just admired from far away.
If you like this design or anything else you see in my shop contact me and lets talk about what I can build for you! Custom builds normally start by exchanging some photos. If you've seen a Nakashima or other Mid Century Modern design online save the photo and send it to me. We can talk about the details you like and make a design that fits your space.
How am I going to ship this very large piece of furniture? Well I ship my larger piece by LTL Freight. That means that I will build a wood crate then very carefully prep your sideboard and pack it into the crate. The crate will get loaded onto a tractor trailer then travel across the states to your driveway. A rep from the shipping company will call you to make delivery arrangements. The crate will be delivered to your address then you will be responsible for opening the crate and getting the piece into your house.
