An elegant antique European encoignure (corner cupboard). circa 1830
Born in Italy in the first half of the 19th century, exquisitely hand-crafted in refined Louis XVI taste, solid wood construction finished in stunning exotic matched kingwood & tulipwood veneers with intricate cross-banding, having a single bowfront cabinet door, locking with key included, opening to interior with fixed shelf, rising on Neoclassical tapering square legs, topped with the original fitted rouge marble slab with dramatic veining and unique molded lower edge.
Dimensions: (approx)
34" High, 19" Wide, 13.25" Deep
Having the ideal size and petite proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a kitchen cupboard, hall corner console, decorative arts stand, bedside nightstand in a cozy bedroom, side table, plant stand, and more.
*Please note, when this cabinet is placed in the corner and has the marble on top it is sturdy and structurally sound, however when it is not against two walls or have the weight of the marble on the top, opening the large door can cause the cabinet to tip forward, so for added security, especially if you have small children or pets, we recommend securing it to the wall using one or two screws.
Condition:
Great original unrestored antique condition with beautifully aged warm rich patina and lustrous sheen. Retaining original antique character marks and rustic old world European charm throughout, including scattered nicks, chips, and minor losses, mainly to the door lower corner edge, evidence of restoration to rear leg, all wear consistent with age and use.
Overall a wonderful example, delivered cleaned, waxed, with hand rubbed polished French patina finish, ready for immediate use and generational enjoyment!
