While designing this line of vessel sinks, my sketchbook pages were quickly filled with elaborate, complex geometric shapes that could be integrated into a sink design. I soon realized the often-overlooked principle that simplicity is key. Simplicity will stand the test of time, and that it would be best to let the concrete shine as a material, while keeping the overall design language refined to the essence of what is necessary in a vessel.
Concrete has an aesthetic best described as perfectly imperfect. These are the details that make concrete what it is. Know that great care will be taken in crafting your piece, and if you have any further questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact me.
Please keep in mind concrete is a distinctive material and has its own set of characteristic that should be realized and understood:
Color may vary slightly from sink to sink, and areas of a particular sink may vary as well. This is especially true with “grey” as grey cement is less refined during its manufacturing process resulting in the variance of color associated with common concrete.
Due to internal stresses caused by temperature cycles, your sink may develop very fine hairline cracks over time. These should not cause concern, as they do not negatively affect the usability or structural integrity of your sink.
As a result of the casting orientation, the inside of your sink will be fairly consistent in color, patterning, and will be hole free. Any holes resulting from the casting process will be filled. The outside of your sink will highlight most clearly the characteristic look of concrete. I have tried to express this thoroughly through my photography.
Your concrete is sealed with the highest performing sealer on the market. This is a common statement among concrete makers, however it’s taken me 4 years of sealer exploration to feel 100% confident in offering these products. The sealer is breathable, meaning water may darken or lighten your concrete temporarily. This is completely normal.
Note to other concrete makers: If you are curious, I use the ICT sealing system. Do not be intimidated by its multi-step application process, or heat requirements. It is well worth the price and process.
