these types of lamps are our favorite: two historical pieces rendered useless with progress uniting to find new life in the modern times. Chicago meeting New York.

railroad signal lantern became long obsolete; however, around 1910 they were what forwarded industrialization and logistics forward. in those days the railroads fueled the economy – cities would form and blossom around railroad hubs. Chicago-made adlake non-sweating lamp rocked a clever exhaust that allowed for condensation to escape without putting out the light or forming condensation on the lenses. unusual for the lanterns this age, both, the shades and glass lenses are intact.

the lantern has been converted into a lamp with standard bulb socket.

the base is made by modelform co of New York. needless to say, tailoring has made its progress since the days of the dress forms. cast iron base features original casters and a cool pedal. when pressed down, it allows for the pole to be manually extended. releasing the pedal locks the height in place.

the lamp stands at 70 inches tall at its lowest. the courageous of us can take it up to 105 and then some.
