A rare and unusual Biedermeier style single door bedside cabinet. Hand-crafted, featuring strong, high quality craftsmanship and solid wooden construction, in rich, exotic and lustrous highly figured satin birch.
Born in Central Europe, possibly Scandinavia, during the second half of the 19th century, this exquisite cabinet presents with a square slanted top; sitting above a gently angled, pyramidal shaped case fitted with a single recessed panel cupboard door, adorned with original wood knob and wood inside latch; the door opening to reveal a spacious interior fitted with a single fixed shelf, offering convenient storage opportunities; finished on three side while the unfinished back retains plenty of antique character and charm, all rising on a plinth base.
Good size and proportions for a variety of uses, including as a nightstand, chair side or end table, pedestal, trumeau (pillar), and more.
Examples of so-called "pyramid furniture" are extremely rare and require high skill, that can only be built by the best carpenters.
This mesmerizing piece shows an absolute gorgeous grain from every angle thanks to its fantastic finishing work and superb grain detail, while the scarce flaring, graduated form adds a unique level of sophistication. This European antique, circa 1880, is sure to bring a touch of subdued elegance to any bedroom or living room.

The couple supplied both their Washington metro based antique shop, Grant Antiques, and their very fine quality Connecticut showcase, E.J. Grant Antiques, with domestic and imported pieces. World travelers who especially loved European antiques, sourced their merchandise during their frequent buying trips to Europe and Asia and included purchases originating in France, the British Isles, Italy, Spain, and beyond.
