I don't have a lot of information about this line, but if you're not familiar with Denby and you like stone dinnerware then you should become familiar with them. I would compare them to Heath, but Heath is still in a category of its own. Unliike Heath, however, they are pricey but you can find some amazing deals on them in the secondhand markets, and I have found whole stacks of them thrifting because many people are not familiar with the brand. On second thought, forget I ever mentioned Denby. ;-)
The elevator pitch on them is they are a British potterer that has been around for a very long time - over 200 years. This means they have a quite extensive back catalog so when you stumble across any Denby out in the wild odds are it's vintage. They take pride in the fact that their wares are made from Derbyshire clay. Perhaps to someone in England that might generate oohs and aahs. Knowing nothing about Derbyshire, let alone their clay, but having held a lot of Denby, clearly it makes some outstanding, solid dinnerware.
This pitcher comes from their Energy Leaf line which released at the end of the 1990s and continued to be made through the mid-2000s. It is barely on the cusp of what is considered vintage so relative to its siblings this line is relatively new. This pitcher is the only one from this line that I've held but immediately it feels different than what I'd expect from Denby. It has a smooth matte glaze and it feels lighter in weight than the solid stoneware I would expect from a Denby item. I assume the others in the line are similar but currently, I do not have any information on why this is the case. When you get this home tell me what you think.
This pitcher measures 8-1/2" tall with a diameter at the top of 4" and a 5-1/4" at the base. From the handle to the spout, it measures 8" across. It is in great vintage shape with no evidence of cracks, crazing, or chips. And as I mentioned it is light, weighing in at 2 lb. 1 oz.
