“Jason” cocktail table in stainless steel and glass by New York City designer and interior decorator Gary Gutterman. An exceptionally well-executed continuous form with the unusual feature of a segment that pierces the surface of the glass top, presented as “functional art” decades before the SOFA show. A rarely seen design produced for Axius Designs, signed and dated 1974. Gutterman began his career in the mid-1960’s as an in-house designer for Helikon Furniture before co-founding Axius Designs in 1971. Axius became known for its offerings of custom designs and sizes. Provenance: a residential commission by Gutterman.

The steel base is in exceptionally good original condition, with only minor wear and some superficial scratches consistent with age and use. The glass top is in good shape except for the edges along the slot, which has a number of chips, consistent with years of use. Height is to the glass surface.
