Hans J. Wegner Cognac Leather “Papa Bear” Chair for A.P. Stolen

Hans J. Wegner Cognac Leather “Papa Bear” Chair for A.P. Stolen

This iconic “Papa Bear” lounge chair were designed by Hans J. Wegner for the famous Danish workshop of A.P. Stolen in 1951. Originally named the AP-19, this model acquired the name “Papa Bear” when a journalist claimed that the chair looked like a bear hugging the sitter from behind. Its features include tapered teak legs and padded arm rests or claws that serve to conceal the tenon and mortise joinery underneath. Our expert craftsmen have professionally restored it to its original specs by upholstering it with a quality Italian cognac full-grain leather that will patinate beautifully over time. With their playful form and extremely comfortable quality, it has made them a classic marker of Danish Modern design.
