Exceptional "Pygmalion" painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with complex scene in enamel cloisonne with hand-brazed sculptured frame by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (signed “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” on front of painting). This work retains the Seymour Gallery label on the back. The Seymour Gallery was located inside the LaVerne Gallery and showcased their finest artworks. The LaVerne's experimented with assymetry in several of their works. The hand-brazed bronze sculptured frame adds another artistic element to this artwork. The story of Pygmalion and Galatea is one of the most popular classical myths: Pygmalion, a Cypriot sculptor, falls in love with his statue, Galatea and Aphrodite, the goddess of love, fulfills his wish and turns the statue into a real woman. This artwork is magnificent.
