Michel Mangematin Cast Bronze Sculptural Pair of French Table Lamps, circa 1970

Michel Mangematin French architect pair of French bronze table lamps. Abstract patterns in the design are recessed and exhibit wonderful variation and texture. These solid bronze table lamps have an amazing abstract modern pattern in the lamp body and are very heavy, circa 1970. These lamps have been polished and rewired. Michel Mangematin was a French designer and architect who produced a very limited range of furniture designs. He went to the USA in 1957 to study under Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in their workshops. This period greatly inspired Mangematin and the legs of his designs are a nod of appreciation towards Van der Rohe’s Barcelona chair. The scarcity of Mangematin’s designs was probably due to his dedication to his architectural career as well as being a devoted teacher at Clermont Ferrand in France.
