An absolutely gorgeous early 20th century black silk robe with two gold dragons coiling across the back through a sky of cloud scrolls. The dragons are worked in couched metallic gold thread, laid and tacked down by hand in raised, scale-like rows. Their manes bristle in fine gold rays, and their open mouths are picked out in red silk with white fangs and green-stitched eyes. Smaller outlined clouds drift over the fronts, sleeves and sash. When the robe swings open, the lining is a blaze of saffron-orange silk, and the same orange binds the hems and sleeve edges. The matching sash ends in knotted  fringe in orange silk. This is a showpiece to wear or to display. In excellent condition, freshly cleaned and ready to wear.
