Vintage Art Deco Coronation Teatime Service for 4
Each piece is embellished with a stylized depiction of King George VI and Elizabeth, Queen Consort. The images have been set within a central medallion with heraldic flags on either side. Above the portraits, the date 'May 1937' has been placed to the sides of a surmounted crown. The absence of a specific day reflects the uncertainty of the monarchy and the speed with which new coronation souvenirs were issued to celebrate the upcoming Coronation of George VI following the sudden abdication of the King's elder brother, Edward VIII. Below the likenesses, the titles 'George VI & Elizabeth' appear.
