A fine quality Napoleon III style carved and gilded rope and tassel armchair, the shaped upholstered back with a knotted and tasseled crest. Its entire frame, from partially upholstered arms to seat rail, legs and feet, are all very well carved to resemble rope and beautifully gilded. Generously proportioned and comfortable, this is a grand and very sturdy chair that has style, whimsy and a playful sense of grandeur. Currently upholstered in a luxurious Italian chinoiserie design in silk, this chair would also be very striking in a simple solid white fabric. Provenance: Private Collection, Beacon Hill, Boston.
